God is now
living in a city


a quiet little city beneath
the flesh of


a white haired doctor
a man who speaks

This poem appeared in the Spring 1993 issue of Ararat.

Professor Alan Paul Akmakjian (1948-2003) was the author of works of fiction as well as poetry. Publications include:  

California Picnic and Other Poems was published in 1997
Grounded angels, and, Breaking the silence : poems 1993
Let the sun go was published in 1992

Prof Akmakjian's career included: California State University-San Francisco, instructor in English, 1982-83; St. John's University, Jamaica, NY, fellow in literature, 1993-94; University of Texas-Dallas, fellow in humanities, 1994-. Member of California Poets in the Schools program, 1984-92; member of boards of advisors and boards of governors. Translator.

I am desert heat
sand
thrown upon paper
medz mayrik

dusty film on
a rose
red grows darkness
my days

below your gravestone
treading moonlit
pages of water

I do not wake
