Learning Armenian through Poetry

This is not news to us, and is in fact one of the reasons APP exists.

A new language learning tool has discovered and mentions APP on their site. TalkPal AI mentions the Armenian Poetry Project as a valuable resource. Music to my ears.

However, dear Readers, I was not contacted by this company and have written to them since many of the poets posted on APP are alive and retain copyright or publishers have copyrights to their work.

Final notice: we are moving our email subscription from FeedBurner to Follow.it

Dear APP readers:

In the next few days, we will be permanently transitioning away from FeedBurner's email subscription as they will no longer support it.

We have exported and transitioned many of you already to follow.it

You might want to check that you are getting these notices on the new platform, or subscribe by visiting APP's main page. Please note that like FeedBurner, you will need to confirm your subscription (and check your spam folder!)

follow.it has many new features which were not available on FeedBurner so check them out.
You can also read more about them at https://follow.it/all-news

Reminder: We are celebrating on May 2, 2021

The Armenian Poetry Project’s producer and director Lola Koundakjian likes to celebrate the Project’s anniversaries, as she put it, “quietly, reading poetry”. This year, with the help of the Armenian Institute and the International Armenian Literary Alliance, we are celebrating APP’s 15th anniversary with a reading of some of the most beautiful poems on APP’s website.

With close to 3000 posts and 200 audio clips, APP is a free site containing poems written by Armenians, as well as contemporary authors on Armenian subject matters. It represents authors from the 19th century to present, with some Krapar pieces added to the mix. Sources include out of print books, periodicals and digitized archives.

During this celebration, we will recreate the “Dead Armenian Poets Society” -- the semiannual gathering in precovid times at Lola’s apartment.

Join us as our readers give voice to the poets of the past, and experience why the lonely and the curious -- from over 100 countries -- reach out to poetry TM.

The readers are:
Hratch Tchilingirian, Susan Pattie, Tina Chakarian, Theo Maarten van Lint, Vazken Davidian, Tatevik Ayvazyan, Lola Koundakjian, Gagik Stepan-Sarkissian, Olivia Katrandjian, Shahé Mankerian, Shakeh Major Tchilingirian, Arthur Kayzakian and Nancy Agabian

Submissions to the Armenian Poetry Project

Dear readers and authors:

APP is testing a new submissions portal using Greensubmissions.com

In the near future, all submissions of poetry, translations as well as the annual poetry competition, will be using this portal.

The Armenian Poetry Project editors will continue to consider new and previously published poems from all individuals of Armenian descent for publication in APP's site. Suggestions for classical and contemporary poems, typed in UNICODE and accompanied by a scanned page, may also be submitted.

Submissions are not a guarantee of acceptance.

Thank you for your support as we upgrade our submissions method.

Another quiet anniversary

On April 30, 2015, The Armenian Poetry Project turned 9

This one was another quiet celebration because the centennial of the Armenian Genocide was commemorated all over the world during the same month.

I believe APP helped me achieve several goals: bringing Armenian poetry to an international audience; access to the masses, including those who don't have Armenian books in their homes and public libraries; translations of some poems into English, Spanish and French; encouraging readers to discover new writers, while providing forgotten poems and their authors a new readership.

In the last two months, APP organized two readings commemorating the authors who died or survived the Genocide, one on April 21st with a repeat program coming up on May 26, both in New York City.

Ongoing projects and resources include:

1 - Information and events around the DEAD ARMENIAN POETS SOCIETY. This was the core of what eventually became APP. I am happy to share guidelines on how to run evenings dedicated to reading works by late Armenian authors.

2. As a way of archiving, I have uploaded audio files to SoundCloud. This will help APP reach a larger audience as the blog format restricts us for posting them all in the same page, and iTunes cannot archive old episodes.
The APP group on SoundCloud is here.

3. We continue to provide support for cultural events and help in finding authors for reading series in the United States and Canada.

4. This was our fifth year with the poetry competition, sponsored by the ASA.

5. Regular postings -- albeit not daily -- of poems, translations and announcements.

I invite all readers to stay in touch, add comments and share your thoughts.

All best, and thank you for being a reader and supporter of the APP.
