Kostan Zaryan: Love in Venice

(I)

It is because autumn
gently elbowed up the sky
that the air has lit the hives of its bees,
and that the leaf falls,
rocked by death to the sound of the moon.

Somewhere the sea murmure among trees.
Soul seeks for itself
in this rumbling, golden coffin.
Soul tells to itself
a definite, red secret of bloom.

Where shall I lay my head?
The hour has burst its sheeps’ eyes;
darkness rustles;
the star mirrors itself in the Infinite.

Exile holds my hands.
My heart wounds me: my heart wounds me, along the shore,
and night, drop by drop,
pours out a chant of presentiment -
drop by drop;
pours,
as into the hollow palm of a beggar
the new-minted coins of an awkward angel.

And yet,
because autumn
gently elbowed up the sky -
the inebriate soul lifts up its secret,
definite and red as a desire
smoking as its roots,
while my head bends its fever
towards you,
touched and entangled by my love.

(II)
I came alone to open your door
and there, on the sofa
where still yesterday your fever
was burning upon my lips,
I bent my head near your presence,
immaterial and sweet.

Thus, my brow penetrates eternity.
Around a brown flower, oh, best beloved,
the silence closes its lips and gets inebriated;
the gleaming sheaves in oblique forms
like candles standing at a shrine.

Everything is spiral:
tomorrow's dawn heaps up in its throat the song,
so that sky may whisper its blue,
so that soul,
on the trapeze of a miraculous circus,
may rock with movement of its swelling ardour.

When in a moment I will go away,
your trembling shade will come to prowl
around my passing
and the silence will keep a white message.

Closed blinds, open souls;
in this incandescent hour,
my heart falls to the bottom of its mystery;
my steps totter
and the key trembles in my hand,
like a burning coal.

When, in a moment, I will go away,
your panting shade will slowly take the key
in order that the sky murmur its blue
and my hands remain warm and pure.

Ա.

Kostan Zaryan : AMOUR A VENISE

Parce que l’épaule de l’automne
A découvert un peu de ciel
L’air a enflammé ses ruches
Pleines d’abeilles
Et la feuille tombe en son trépas
Balancée dans un bruit de lune
Quelque part la mer chuchote
Dans les arbres
L’âme
Se cherche
En ce cercueil d’or frissonnant,
L’âme
Se confie une évidence:
Le secret rouge des floraisons

Où aller poser ma tête ?
L’heure a son regard d’agneau
L’ombre frémit
L’astre

Goutte à goutte un chant devin - en goutte à goutte ;
Verse
Comme dans la main
Démesurée d’un mendiant
Les monnaies fraîchement frappées
De quelqu’ange maladroit

Et cependant
Parce que l’automne
A découvert un peu de ciel
L’âme soulève
Enivrée,
L’évidence rouge de son secret :
Désir brûlant,

Déraciné

Cependant qu’enfiévrée, ma tête
Emue et envahie d'amour,
Penche vers toi

Seul
je suis venu chez toi
Et sur ce lit où hier
Déjà
Ta fièvre consumait mes lèvres
Je me suis plié vers toi

Obliques
Les gerbes de lumières
Cierges dressées d'un sanctuaire.

Tout est spirale
L'aube déjà
A composé en son gosier
Le chant pour que demain le ciel
Souffle son bleu.

Pour que lancée sur le trapèze
D'un cirque miraculeux
L'âme amplifie son ardeur

Quand
Tout à l'heure, je m'en irai
Ton ombre viendra frissonnante
Sur mes traces
Le silence
Un message blanc

Volets clos, âmes aimables
En cette heure incandescente
Mon cœur pénètre son mystère
Mon pas titube et la clef tremble
Tison ardent dans ma main

Quand
Tout à l'heure je m'en irai
Ton ombre viendra essoufflée
Prendre la clef de mes mains

Pour que le ciel souffle son bleu
Et que mes mains demeurent chaudes
Et pures
