I had the good fortune to have communicated with James a few times though I never met him in person. He and I traded a few books and he had wanted to submit a manuscript in 1999 to the press I founded, The Backwaters Press. I don't have our correspondence from that exchange but I sure I must have told him that I couldn't afford it because I was operating on less than a shoestring budget, with the press just starting up. In any event, I Googled his name last night and found that he died in 2023. He was a brilliant and mostly unrecognized poet whose work deserves wide recognition. I'm just beginning a search to see if his papers were preserved when he passed away, and if there are any friends or family members who may know about those things. He was a member of the Nebraska Chess History club and played at a high level, according to a note about him when he died. If anyone can direct me toward someone who knew him personally, I will appreciate it. Thanks!
