Keith Garebian: BEHEADING
Dressed in fezzes and uniforms,
moustaches thicker than their lips,
sinewy arms crossed in proud distinction,
they sit like pashas at a table,
staring straight at the lens,
while two male heads lie on platters,
spattered with blood. The camera
doesn’t lie, its details
to be passed on to centuries,
living proof that gets in the way
of cold denials. A moment
defining what they did in their spare time,
before dreaming up reasons to round off
genocide to zero.
