Gayane M. Haroutyunyan: MY BODY
Last night
when I was cooking
a lonely dinner
of potatoes
and Brussels sprouts
I burned my arm
in five places
in five minutes.
I didn’t ice it,
instead
I went on
cooking
thinking
waiting.
Blisters
showed up
like capsules
of shifting fish
glistening
beautiful
and then
I felt sorry
for my body
how it suffers
for years
and doesn’t know
how to stop.
