Hrant Dink (15.9.1954 - 19.1.2007)

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the political murder of Mr. Dink, editor of Agos Armenian Language weekly in Istanbul.

Two recent events connected me to this great man.

The first was the PEN AMERICA card writing blitz I attended in late November 2006, and where I wrote a Christmas card to Mr. Dink.

The other was the unexpected registered letter I received from him a month later, thanking all his supporters, and hoping for Peace on Earth.

This murder is a great blow to Armenians, and to freedom of expression for all peoples.

I would like to ask everyone to send their support to the paper, and Mr. Dink's family by writing to

I want to say something, but I really don't know what to say. It made me cry, when I saw the letter.

We can't bring him back, but we should do something so this won't happen again.
